Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Grants

FP&S grants are part of the AFG's support projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards, with a focus on reducing injury and preventing death among high-risk populations.

FP&S grant activities in 2021 included:

  • Fire prevention education and training.

  • Fire code enforcement.

  • Fire/arson investigation.

  • Firefighter safety and health programming.

  • Prevention efforts.

  • Firefighter safety research and development.

FP&S success story

With an FP&S grant, the Galesburg (Illinois) Fire Department purchased 3,300 smoke alarms with 10-year lithium-ion batteries. The grant also included smoke alarm installation and education. Recently, one of these alarms helped 7 people (aged 2 months to 70 years old) escape a potentially deadly house fire.
